~~What I'm Listening To As I Write~~

The Only CUre.

This is really the only cure for my insanity. And ironically enough, sometimes The Cure is my cure, when I am listening to The Cure on my iPod. Which is a fantastic pun, by the way. I may use it sometime soon.

I'm a nocturnal human being, I'm pretty sure. I stay up half the night and sleep half the day, and it's quite unhealthy. Or is it?

SLENDERMAN
He's tall and he's faceless,
seems scary and mean,
standing over your bed,
Isn't he so handsome? <3 <3
all nicely dressed and lean.

But one day I got to know him,
(he watches me a lot)
And he's really misunderstood
and often violently fought.

I felt extremely bad for him,
went on some pity dates,
never did we know,
what lied in our fates.

Eventually we fell in love,
he's such a funny guy.
Changed my status on facebook:
"Slenderman and I."

Chuck?

SO here's the album I've been listening to, discovering, exploring, lately.
Boxer by the National.
I first heard Fake Empire on an episode of Chuck, which I was extremely obsessed with for a long time. It's a really great show, and I kind of love Zachary Levi. So when I heard the song, along with others that were very good, I got all the tracks from season 1, 2 and 3 until I found all the songs I liked; Fake Empire being one of them. So eventually (5 months later) I decided to check out the whole album.
AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW? IT'S AMAZING!

Another really amazing thing is that my best friend is going to visit me soon. Approximately 5-7 days, give or take a day. Ok, I have no idea when really. Pretty soon I know.

A round of applause, please.

I would just like to write a little tribute to my kidneys.

Thank you kidneys, left and right, for not failing on me through all the Dr. Pepper, Coke, and Pepsi, I've been drinking. I am truly grateful.

A common album phase for indie-lovers everywhere.

"I LOVE YOU JESUS CHRIST, JESUS CHRIST I LOVE YOU, YES I DO."

Apparently everyone goes through this album and eats it right up. And by everyone, I mean people who love indie. Basically I really like In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, a lot. I usually like things with less lyrical emphasis; quieter lyrics that don't overpower. But in this album Mangum is a very loud and prominent singer and some may find it overbearing and annoying. Refer to above quote.

But for some reason I find the singing enchanting and it fits the style of the music really well.

I even learned the riff to The King of Carrot Flowers Pt. 1. It's not much but it still makes me happy.

Basically this is an album I love to blast in my car when I have to drive for quite a while so that I can sing loudly and happily to abstract and sometimes nonsensical lyrics.

And thus concludes all my feelings about Dubstep.

The Antlers

This is not a recent obsession. In fact, Hospice by the Antlers became a huge phase album just this past July 16, as I was leaving Utah from a week-long visit/vacation. It even surpassed a few other albums on my list, which does NOT happen often.

So far it's the only album I've listened to today, and if I switch to another album it will probably be Burst Apart anyway. So today may just have to be an Antlers day.

My feelings... let's see. Depressed. Slightly angry. Things have not been going my way in many departments of life right now. I'm only 17 and my financial plans aren't working out as I wanted them to, I'm nervous for college and wondering if I'm going to make it, I've been trying to get a job as a pharmacy tech and it's been 4 weeks since I began the search, I just broke up with my boyfriend I've had for 9 months, I just took a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) test and can't access my scores, and I'm in love with my best friend living 2000 miles away.

Yeah, yeah. Poor me. I bet those aren't anything compared to most people's problems, but it's slightly affecting me.

So The Antlers are a great fix for feeling depressed. Listening to Hospice, being about a hospice patient and a doctor's relationship, can usually feed satisfy that "everything-is-so-sad-and-I-hate-it" feeling in your gut and let you get everything out. I know that the album made me cry at least 5 times, and at the time it was just what I needed. As I was told by a friend; "The album is a perfect metaphor for a dying relationship..."

Once you've had your fill of sorrow and wallowing in tears, you can move on to Burst Apart (not that you're leaving Hospice forever) to calm down and eventually go back to your less depressing Indie and Alternative, and if you're just that hipster, your techno, trip-hop, dubstep, electronica....

As for being depressed, sadly this happens a lot to me. But that is also why I'm so addicted to music.

"I recommend I Don't Care™ to anyone like me; I hate people and want them all to die!" -Suz, age 17

"I Don't Care™." -Dave, age 18

"Staying away from a little bit of drama is totally worth being alone forever. I'd never go back! Thank you I Don't Care™!" -Tyler, age 18

I'm not usually like this.

So at the moment I'm phasing through Dido like crazy. Ok, I've always loved Dido, ever since I was a little kid. But to be listening to it obsessively... This is a little abnormal.

Don't Leave Home

When I listen to Dido, it means at least 4 things;
-I am feeling defiant in some way.
-My feminist side is showing. I am angry about something sexist most likely.
-I am weirdly emotional in the most girly way possible.
-I am thinking of someone. Someone important to me.

Thank You

Of all the music I listen to, about 5 or 6% of the music is sung by female singers. Most female voices kill me inside (all pop music) because the voices are nasally and whiny and 6 octaves above normal voice range. Dido's voice is a in a very soothing range, and her voice sounds like real singing. I can sing along and match the wispy tone in her voice perfectly. Beautiful.

See You When You're 40

The slowness of her music is perfect for emotional moods. I can almost cry during a few of her songs. Almost. Not quite, but close.

See The Sun

And at this moment, the thoughts in my head scream "I CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT YOU." And BOOM. Dido solves that problem. If the problem can be solved anyway. Ok, maybe it doesn't solve anything. It just makes me feel better.

Blue Yoshis are the best.

If you haven't played Super Marioworld then you are a sad little deprived child and you need to go find a way to play it if it means punching babies and stealing from children.

(That was a great way to start a blog; I am friendly, warm and inviting. Don't be fooled.)

This is my blog where I will post music that I'm phasing through, so if you hate music you have found your enemy blog. But if you hate music you should just... never mind.
